Description
Jackdaws have been observed sharing food and objects. The active giving of food is rare in primates, and in birds is found mainly in the context of parental care and courtship. Jackdaws show much higher levels of active giving than documented for chimpanzees. The function of this behaviour is not fully understood..
They are, as most Corvids, highly intelligent, not only as the above actions show but have even been seen to undertake mercy killings of a fellow flock member in obvious distress.. Having witnessed this myself in preparing this new wildlife series.

wonderful shot and amazing info...thanks for sharing!
Amazing capture my friend. God Bless.
It's a beauty and wonderful presented!!
They eat of my bird table, dear Danny. You would think they were to big to get on it! Wonderful capture. Hugs, DiDi. xx
great closeup of this bird !!thx for info too !
Wonderful picture!!
Wonderful shot and interresting words.
Very interesting information. However. maybe it's not "mercy killing", but an attack on one who is vulnerable. I often thought if I shrank in size as in "Honey, Who Shrank the Kids?", my dog would still listen to me and follow me around. My cats, on the other hand, their eyes would light up and they would consider me prey. Good looking bird though, no matter what it's motives might be and nicely photographed.
wonderful foto, great lighting and details
Beautifully detailed, the blue eya is outstanding, but the entire shot is terrific in it's color and exposure! So much detail in such a dark bird and then to maintain the exposure of the light rocks he's on is not an easy feat!
This is a super shot. I had one as a pet when I was a kid and they are, as you state, highly intelligent.
