Description
This is the infamous Subject 31 picture found in the damaged collections archive of the British Museum of Natural History.
As some of you might be aware, the brittle photograph was discovered in 2009 when staff were restoring damaged artifacts after a minor flood.
The picture was in an unsealed envelope with the hand-written label "Subject 31 - June 1897".
No other information was available and museum staff refuse to speculate on its origin.
