Description
Gone a Viking
They stole away into the cool night air, down to the beach they headed.
When they got there, he touched her hair and traced Mjolnir in the stars.
In the morning, he would go Viking.
Just as the sunlight the slipped over the harbor, the mead was poured
To honor Njord. They stood wrapped under the same wool blanket watching Sunna kiss the shore with light.
Today he would go a Viking.
Two low-slung drakkers pushed out to sea. With sails wrapped, the oars swept quickly
Carrying him away for he was a Viking.
The path to their secret place grew worn with the passing tides.
He never saw her growing form heavy with his child,
He never saw the red haired lad become a man.
Still she walked to that magic place
He had gone a Viking.
Her body frail, hair gone grey, her eyes had failed but her feet followed the path made by heart,
She walked it for the last time carrying the old worn blanket and
Stretched out on the sand. She heard the grinding hiss of ship upon the shore.
There he stood young and fair offering his hand,
She stepped up beside him, young again,
As they left together to a Viking.
