Description
There's quite a story that goes with this house. It was built by the Gillette Brothers of razor blade fame. According to legend, they got into a huge fight and actually split the house in two. I worked for the woman who lived there back in the early 70's and indeed, her kitchen looked onto a brick wall. It is the very last house before you get to the Wedge (see previous fotos) and looks out onto the Balboa Channel.
When I went to the Wedge last week to check out the big surf, I saw the house for the first time in years. I came home and googled it. Guess what? The story isn't true at all. The brothers simply built houses right next to each other. I was so disappointed--after all, a house being split in half is far more interesting!!

Cool shot and great story
Well, both are really nice homes, even if they are a tad bit close...great shot, and sorry you were disappointed by the boring truth!
Interesting Tale and capture of this house Marilyn!
Say, I used to live in a single story house very similar in design to these two, Maz. Nice shot, not exactly the Hearst Castle, and sorry the legend about the family dispute was bogus.
wonderful work
How are you fixed for blades...better check...Gillette blue blades we mean. I remember when they had almost the entire market. Neat house and story.
Couple of sharp guys! (Sorry ...)
Glad they didn't catch you there....that would have been a close shave! I love silly historical stories like this!!!!!!
What a shame about the story..so why on earth are they so close?
its a cut throat industry to be in ...;)
Two nice examples of Southern California Spanish. I only use electric razors.
Gorgeous home(s) and capture! How would Solomon have handled it? Dana
