Description
The Lecture is an effort to remind us that in many wars, the young often get introduced into combat in the end.
Be it the Civil War, or the last days of Berlin, for right or wrong, often it is old men teaching young boys to do their duty.

Funny how they always leave out the bit about dying, isn't it? Anyone who's been one of those greenhorns getting that last pep talk before their first battle has to look at this image and feel once again The Fear in the pit of their stomach. Another brilliant image, mate. You do extraordinary work.

I'd like to think this didn't happen in the Union Army that you've so aptly and artistically depicted in blue here. My great grandfather enlisted at age 19 which is young enough...but I've not read of young boys being recruited at earlier ages during the Civil War in the north. I suspect the story was different in the south where they were running ever shorter of manpower as the war raged on. But your overall point is very valid as others above have mentioned. Wonderful detailed depiction.
