Description
A Sunday last March in the big lock of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks near Seattle, Washington.
These locks allow boats/ships to transit back and forth between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh water of Lake Washington...without any contamination of the fresh water.
How? Here's a wiki with the answer if you'd like to know:) Click Here.

Wonderful info, reflections and blue sky! What an experience, Clive
I find that fascinating Bill because locks have never been a thing I have ever experienced in real life. I'd heard of them raising boats up etc but never of them used for this reason.
These locks also raise and lower the boats going through...a vertical distance of 20-22 feet (Lake Washington is that much higher than the Sound which is at sea level).
Wonderful view. Great shot!!
You know, I've always wondered about the salt/fresh water thing. I'm sure I've read this Wiki before, but somehow I never got to the part about the salt water being heaver! Duh. !!! I knew that, but the pieces never met up in my brain before. Thanks for the information, and for the reminder of a gorgeous, sunny day in March! I sort of remember it's possible, but this year is no proof! LOL! Beautiful photograph. :*
a beautiful scene
It looks to be a most interesting place. What a lovely sunny pic!
A beautiful shot on a beautiful day.

Stunning reflection, sunlight, and impressive boats here Bill! I'll have the big boy on the left!!! lol Yeah right! Good shot... Rob
I remember locks even from my childhood in Germany, believe it or not ... what a crisp and clear image, simply meticulous - BB

This pic would make a lovely jigsaw, love the colour of the water, so blue!!!
Great capture and wonderful information
Very interesting picture. Well done
such vibrant colors. must be nice to be wealthy, but wealth brings a whole new set of problems I am told
Super nice post Bill! :-)
Great photo, Bill - looks like it was a lovely day! I'll have to check out that WiKi!
SUPERLATIVE SHOT
Deep rich color and contrast in this magnificent shot, Bill. I checked out the website. Surely there must be some kind of salt contamination of the fresh water even with their engineering process procedure.
A beautiful clear capture with lovely colouring. That is a great idea.
will be warm soon then time for a swim a jump from the boat wonderful cature smiles warm hugs, Linda
