...young cormorant transitioning from down to feathers.
...Cormorants are great fishers...found this young guy swimming slowly in the marina learning the ropes...
Note: Change 1. MrsRatbag has correctly identified this as a pied-bill grebe. Glad she knew. Thanks Denise.

What a cutie. Babies of any species are pretty cute, and this is a real beauty. I love the ripples and the nice, darkish colors of his (her?) feathers. I also love the way this little one looks a wee bit like a baby Loch Ness monster...sort of...well, not really, but I couldn't resist bringing that up. This is a fantastic shot.
so cute and wonder where the mom is? she must be close by
very cute duck and shot
makes me think of David Crosby's song, Columbus how the cormorant dove to where the mermaids sleep wonderful capture
Good shot of this young one.I am sure that its' mother is far away.
What a dear little bird Bill.
Nicely composed, Bill! The ripples in the water are perfect, and it just draws the eye right to the little cormorant. Excellent capture of the little guy!
Cool photo!
An adorable face! It seems so wide-eyed and interested in that way babies have about the world. Okay, I know it's a bird. (It's just her face!) But still. Excellent capture!
I like the ripples and the lighting of the feathers. Can see the big paddling feet too! Clive
So cute Bill, nice capture of this young one..
AW! How cute! I guess the posts above have said everything I was about to say. I wonder how it would react if one tried to pick it up for a closer look or to pet it? Keep up the good work! :-)
Great capture Bill. By the way Pat40 also lives in Chard so there are 4 Rendos here!!
PERFECT!

What a sweet little one! I know how cold that water is... but I'm sure they are "built" for it! Very sweet shot Bill!
Marvelous picture!!
Awe he is so sweet, lovely pic!!!
So cute! He looks very much like the pied-bill grebe, are you certain it's a cormorant? I've never seen a baby cormorant (or more than one pied-bill grebe, for that matter) so I couldn't tell for sure. my pied-bill grebe shot
Hold the phone...yes, MrsRatbag is right. This little guy is a pied-bill grebe. Thanks Denise.
He looks so cute in this capture and I like how the ripples are framing him.
great capture, it's so cute
Cool capture of the young pied-bill grebe, generating nice ripples as it takes its baby steps in the cold water, Bill.
