Description
I doubt very much that the locals think of this part of the Caye as a 'Central Business District', but it has a cluster of small stores, eateries, and bars. It is located on Middle Street.

Most locals, visitors, and produce and other cargo from Belize City arrive at Caye Caulker by water taxi. A round trip from Belize City to Caye Caulker is about $18.50 for the 33km trip. A round trip to Ambergris Caye, another 24km further north cost about $27.
Water taxis to Ambergris Caye always stop at Caye Caulker, and taxi drivers at Caye Caulker are at the landing only for the northbound trips to Ambergris Caye.
The water between Belize City and the Cayes is usually fairly calm, since the entire coast of Belize is sheltered by a 290km long barrier reef, the longest in the Western Hemisphere. The water taxis are boats about 30 to 35-ft long with an enclosed passenger space and the larger ones are powered by three outboard motors, each having 200hp.
On the first trip to Ambergris Caye the water was pretty choppy and the taxis move pretty fast, banging on the waves like speedboats and creating a lot of spray.
