Description

This faerie tale view is behind the quite old Church of St. Edward in Stow on Wold, England. A straight view of the door was posted a few years ago. This photo was found while viewing files from 2008..I don't know how it passed by. Very few people ventured behind the church and found this hidden gem.

Very nice picture. I like these british cemeteries with old crosses in the grass. Our cemeteries are so ugly.

I agree, great atmosphere. It's good to go back through those old images on housebound winter days.

Tom the colors here are so vibrant, the trees on each side and the door are mystical, and your prespective is awesome the vignette adds to the drama along with the head stone, it could be a scene straight out of a faerie tale, great eye Tom and great capture!

Very magical I am glad you ventured in like someone else said...and found the entry way And I just love the roots of the tree that stands on the side of the entrance... Those trees must be old to have roots like that.......... I love it............and I got up some newbies...haven't been in your gallery awhile and saw your name and this image on someone's favs...and had to click on it So glad I did.........I got a treat for the eyes...............and you got a fav:) Do come see me....my health has not been good....in fact since we last saw each other my cancer has spread to my bones.........I hurt so bad all the time..another reason I can't comment much..I hurt just sitting at the computer after so long have to limit my time...... Hugs Susan~

I've been on this strange kick, lately, all focused on the idea that there is a word in Spanish that has proved itself to be rather difficult to translate. In fact, it's the hardest word in the Spanish language to translate to English. The word is "Duende" which literally means "elf" and yet it's meaning isn't restricted to a description of elves, short people, or anything like that. It's an emotional word as well; it describes a mood, and at times, a rather dark spiritual state--dark as in mysterious and not evil. This image makes me think of that word, mostly because there's so much in this that would be so incredibly easy to miss. When you move off of the beaten path, or into ignored territory, gems like this pop up and greet you. And this is quite a gem. I love it! There's mood galore in this image, and there's a kind of emotional richness that goes far beyond "a pretty picture." This is quite amazing, and I'm glad you posted it, because I had a chance to see it, and mark it as one of my favorites. This is fantastic!
