Description

Here I've put the Walrus on approach to the heavy cruiser HMAS Australia, circa 1943-ish. I've given the Walrus a simpler, Navy-style paint-job plus a layer of grunge. I guess most of that comes from being downwind of no less than three smokestacks!!! Not to mention all the cordite smoke from regular shore bombardments. Unfortunately, the sea eventually got much too "boiling hot" for the dear ol' Walrus... it was just going to be kindling for kamikazes, wasn't it? Its huge catapault could be replaced in a twinkling by a dozen or so much needed AA guns and, well, it was pretty much made redundant as a maritime spotter by the invention of radar... Mind you... heavy cruisers? you don't see many of THEM around these days either? Thanks for viewing... Comments welcome.

Most impressive recreation and yes todays "destroyers" are yesterdays "crusiers" in size and usage. Super work!!!

Very nice. What did you use to model the plane and ship?

Ah, yes, I forgot to finalise the credit insert... the Walrus is Touchwood's. I modelled the cruiser previously in Shade...

A much overlooked aircraft, like so many a vital stopgap at the start of the war but rapidly overtaken.
