Description
In creating new imagery for my revisions of “Cool and Unusual Birds 2”, I took my Hooded Orioles and placed them on my Perching places street sign. This reminded me of a quote of how developers bulldoze trees and name streets after them, so I decided to add in some Stonemason Urban Sprawl2 (kept it lifeless except for the birds)and, voila, I have some social commentary.
To me, a world without nature is a world I don’t care to live in.
So where does the New Years’ resolution title come in? This image to me is a poignant reminder of what is happening around the world. The one New Years’ resolution I plan to keep is to continually bug my non-environmentally sensitive representatives to become more sensitive. This is especially important within the United States as a new Congress convenes.
Leaders of this new Congress has made it clear already that they want to dismantle the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and FESA (the Federal Endangered Species Act) because they’re not “business friendly”. It seems to me that letting industries poison our water, air and land isn’t very “constituent friendly” but maybe that’s just me.
So for my new years’ resolution I intend to remind them of this at least on monthly basis. When they say creating jobs is more important, I’ll remind them that nearly 6,000,000 Californians consider themselves birders and that birders throughout the US pump $38 billion a year into the economy and creates 671,000 jobs (Audubon).
I humbly suggest any of you who care about the environment, join me in this New Years’ resolution.

Amen to that. Nice render.
I'm with you Ken. The wild horses are having a horrid time of it right now too. Way too many are being rounded up and not being adopted or sent to wild horse refuges. Yet they complain about the genetic viability of a lot of the herds they have decimated. Sigh.. You are right that it is up to us to fight these wrong measures made by our supposed representatives. Thank you for the reminder to keep fighting! If we don't, they will cease to exist and like you, that is not a world I want to live in.
I'm with you 100%. Wonderful image!!!
Good looking image and new years resolution! We underestimate the value of birds here in West Ireland people holiday to view birds they wouldnt see in Europe Three I know are the Chough the Puffin and the grey back crow all very common in my area A simple act of placing a bird table in the garden and providing some food brings a great amount of joy!
Great idea! And a wonderful scene you have created! ;o)
A very nice piece. Contrast between wildlife and the 'monster' called development. It's a constant battle for us who wish to protect the environment, wildlife, and our quality of life. The plan seems to be get rid of wolves, polar bears and anything that gives beauty to this planet. I certainly did not vote these now 'in' people.
A great reminder! We dare not forget!
A free market capitalist will sell you pure water...after he's poisoned all the water that's free. When the price for water reaches the price of oil, THEN you'll see a water-powered car. Thank you for this work! As for the new congress, the blame goes to the fools who elected them. Memories that short could slide under the door. I'm IN for your resolution~!
I am with you 100% and your scene is very poignant.
terrific work!
Nice work, and great resolution.. maybe if more did like you instead of making silly resolutions to lose 5 pounds no one will really notice anyway, we could reach more important goals together.. good luck with it.
