Description
The Long-eared Owl is a medium sized owl, (12–15 inch) in length with a (34–39 inch) wingspan. It has erect blackish ear-tufts, which are positioned in the centre. The ear-tufts are used to make the owl appear larger to other owls while perched. And no doubt for other communication we know little about.
The female is larger in size and darker in colouration than the male. The Long-eared Owl’s brownish feathers are vertically streaked. Tarsus and toes are entirely feathered.
Eye disks are another characteristic in this species. However, the eye disks are darker in colour or rusty-orange. This nocturnal species is perhaps most easily seen perched in a tree in its daytime roost, sometimes in small groups during the winter months.

Excellent capture. Merry Christmas!!!
Stunning capture my friend.
more beautiful clarity and light mixed with softness and nobility, in your bird captures. More beautiful capture of the spirit & power of a bird. It's a wonderful posture, I guess when you've been capturing birds this long, you learn how & when to shoot; for beginners like me, it's a matter of sneaking up, waiting, and hoping. (Of course having a fine zoom helps, which I'm aiming to get next year.) A beautiful noble shot, the detail on the feathers is beautiful but also gentle. And the head, craned as it is, is glorious. Your bird series is gorgeous. A very fine holiday to you, Danny, and to those you love; and thank you for your visits to my gallery & your support of my slowly growing photography too; it's meant a lot to me. I hope your holiday is wonderful & wish you a wonderful new year too. And I look forward to more of your beautiful art which I hope comes out of you in abundance...
