Description
Just watching a few birds at the garden feeder, and hard to imagine what a fierce little bird our Robins can be.. Almost fighting to the kill another Robin, and then saw off 3 starlings! It is cold enough for this behaviour methinks!

This bird has the look of innocence. But don't get him mad! Beautiful. Aloha
Remarkable work!
i am always full of sorrow about the robins in my garden, have a bad cat.. beautiful portrait of a lovely and familary little bird!
when we studied birdsongs years back, we learned that its often-beautiful calls were sexual calls (availability & posturing), warnings to other species not to trespass, calls to the 'tribe' to stay close & remind them where their members are, and even efforts to rile prey so that the bird can attack more easily. We learned terms like 'mobbing' (esp prevalent with scavenger birds such as gulls), and discovered how those beautiful warbles were signs of male dominance, warnings & sexual prowess and so on; and it was a bit disconcerting to learn this, esp for those of us who were musicians and wanted a more 'pleasing' explanation for these exquisite songs. It was my first experience with the harsh realities of bird-life & with the violent and domineering parts of their nature. Maybe their beauty & innocence exist more in our eyes than in theirs, which is to say, merely, that much of nature's beauty is apparent to the outsider more than to its 'carrier'. (Maybe our most violent behavior is more acceptable to a distant cosmic observer than it ever could be to us...) But your capture is gorgeous, partly because of the clarity on the feathers & branch---the robin's feathers are like the finest weave, it's quite beautiful & tight & complex---and partly for its wonderful posture , with the robin facing frontally (a little to our lefts), while it peers in the opposite direction, looking up at something well out of the frame. Nice 'music'. If this were a human, one would say this was a fine piece of photojournalism...And you've 'framed' it quite nicely with the placement of branches & leaves around it. Very fine work, Danny, and your description reminds us of the 'whole bird' while we enjoy the innocent & beautiful side of its many-sided life on earth... (And btw, the robin's song was one of our favorites. It's gorgeous.)
WOW - I can't imagine finding a robin this time of year! Great shot!
