Description

One of the interesting things humans do whenever a successful ship design is created, they then use it as a platform for endless variations. The Ehta-IIb cargo transport was just such a ship. The thought always seems to be "if it works so well for that, it must be good for everything!" or something. Thus the "Ngamia" was born. The family who commissioned this variation used it as a transport for colonists to new stations or settlements while also moving the supplies and equipment they'd need once they arrived. The only trouble was that while the engines and propellant were sufficient for the type of cargo-hauling envisioned by its designers, the added mass, combined with the need to spin the entire ship, made it a very sluggish and slow vessel. This quickly relegated the ship to the "low-budget" passengers and cargo, and it always operated on a razor-thin margin. Dropping the cargo containers did improve its speed, but the limited size still kept the ship from being able to compete with the bigger passenger transports, again relegating it to the margins. Thus the Ngamia may have presented a very unique profile, it was always viewed with a bit of suspicion by authorities who often wondered just what kind of commerce the ship engaged in order to pay it bills... -------- So I'm still playing about with the grubbier and less glamorous segment of space, which is giving me a chance to develop my techniques for showing wear and such on an aging vessel. The ship is my own creation of course, modeled and rendered in Bryce 6. The planet, stars, etc. were all done in Photoshop CS3, and I'm re-using them from my last post because I am so happy with how that planet looks I just had to use it again. All of the postwork, including compositing "aging" and such were done in Photoshop as well. Thanks for taking a look, hope you're all having a good weekend, and as always comments/critiques/suggestions are always welcomed and encouraged. Don't be afraid to criticize, too. I may not always agree with you, but it does help me improve my work to know what people don't like as well as what they do!

WOW! Another favorite! This rocks! Whenever I see your work, I'm inspired to write something. There are so many stories this ship can tell, or any of the ships in your expanding family of ships! I love all of the details here, all of the little surprises that you include. I love those cargo pods, and the rear-stretching boom that they're attached to. Not only that but your lighting and coloring is superb. Delicious realism suffuses your work, and well...if a story oozes out of this image, then I'll definitely let you know. And yeah...I'll say it again, I really like this. Great work!

This new ship is realy nice, I like its design! The planet is great too, but I'd put a bit more differences on its surface, to create more landscape-like aspect, like maybe vallyes and mountains.
