Description
Flint Hills
Imagine
Standing there
Hearing nothing
Then wind
Slow susurration
Rustle of grass
Broken only by bird song
Treeline marks a stream
Endless variety of grasses
Flowering plants
Provide texture
Depth
Slow peace
Seeping into bones
Soul-settling sounds
Nothing to do
But look
Soak it in
Prairie dreams
.....
I thought the photograph might mean more if you knew what it felt like to be there. Hopefully my poem will provide any missing information.

I would have enjoyed this without the poem but the poem adds so much to it. I love going to places where I hear nothing but the sounds of nature. The sound of silence just refreshes and fills my soul.
Lovely!
beautiful ...words and image
WOW! photo and poem are beautiful Excellent, Tara
Beautiful rich looking scene.
Mmmmm! Beautiful.. I can feel the breeze! Lovely words to match... Great work Tara.. And hi to you both! Rob (and Rose)
A meditative surrounding! grear picture and poem! RS
The poem adds mood to the prairie landscape. Thanks for the vision of your world! Clive
Brilliant poem! They are inseperable now, that and your superb photo!
WOnderful capture, Tara. So is the poem. I can imagine.
this is cool
Magnificent desolation... And what a lovely poem to go with it. Beautiful composition - the grass in the foreground really give this a feeling of depth. The Flint Hills is one of those areas that you just cannot comprehend unless you've seen it with your own eyes. This comes about as close as one can with a camera. Excellent photography, Tara!
Wonderful image. You do get a tremendous feeling of space. Thank you for hearing my plea - a raised spot at last! Beautiful poem with superb imagery. About 150 years ago the stillness would have been broken by a low rumble growing louder until thousands of buffalo came over the hill.
Beautiful x2 :)
Oh Hun - I can so associate with this wonderful dreamy image and your wonderful soul soothing words. Just what I needed today! Wonderful work dear friend!
Nice poem to go with the prairie...nice and quiet out there, only beautiful sounds
This is kind of strange. The moment I saw the foto, before I read your poem, I was thinking about what it must be like to be standing there, feeling the wind, letting it wash over me. wow!!
Very warm colors !
Wonderfully peaceful image and soothing words to set the tone. I look at this ground for what it is today and what it was 150 or 1000 years ago (grass and more grass). And then I see it as it was during the Cretaceous Period (145-65 million years ago), the floor of a shallow inland sea called the Western Interior Seaway...what a place.
really Stunning.
