Description
Thank you Stacey, for your inspiration, for this series and your informative comments and site mails.
The twin towers, at the Hearst Castle, were inspired by the bell tower, of the Church of Santa Maria la Mayor, in Ronda, Spain. I was told but cannot verify that the area, in each tower, just below the bells, was a water reservoir to boost water pressure. Wikipedia states that co-architect, Julia Morgan, devised a gravity based water delivery system which transports water from artesian wells on the slopes of Pine Mountain, a 3,500 foot high peak 7 miles east of the castle, to a reservoir on Rocky Butte, a 2000 foot knoll less than a mile southeast from the castle.

Gorgeous capture and great dedication!
Oh, Dana! my blush Thank you so much! This is, indeed, a stunning bell tower and full of details too when seen up close. I think I can back you up on the water pressure thing...if my memory is serving me right. Water pressure up at the ranch was very difficult to maintain so the towers were, I believe, devised to also serve as pressure coloumns to maintian a kind of status-quo for the water systems in the castle and in the guest houses. Thank you so much for this lovely dedication and I'm glad you've found my prattle about the Castle and grounds helpful. :-)
It just hit me who Hearst was lol. anyway this is a cool shot
It is an astounding work of architecture. The water resevoir was not just for boosting water pressure, but also acted as a buffer between the bedroom under there, and the bell tower. In other words, when the bell sounded, it could not be heard in the bedroom. That's what we were told on the tour. For what it is worth.. :-)
Very beautiful image great work.
