Description
The Bristol Cross on it's grassy mound. This is the third site on which the Bristol Cross has stood. Getting it's name from the main crossroads where it was erected in Bristol in 1373, it was considered by many to be an obstruction, and so it was moved in 1733 to College Green. But even here people were not happy with the structure, so it was donated to Henry Hoare at Stourhead in 1768. the cross looks quite delicate but must have orginally have been very well designed and constructed to survive the subsequent relocations.

Beautiful image! I love how it seems to rise out of the shadows. Wonderful detail, depth, and light. Gorgeous setting and capture. Very interesting history. I'm glad it survived the moves and the ravages of time.
