Description
Or would that be Overpass railway support?
Captured the early part of October 2010, early in the morning, on busy Imperial Highway within walking distance of my antagonistic abode.
Check it out full size if you are so inclined.
Almost did another Civil War or spider collage today, but was rather intrigued by the repetition and shadow play in this shot. I've already done some cool filter variations on it, which I'll feature later on, but just for a change of pace thought I'd post a single unadulterated original for today to cut down on any distraction and fave picking. MrsRatbag and beachzz should like this because they're into heavy duty construction photos.
The overpass supports have been strengthened and earthquake proofed over the years, so I feel relatively safe striding or driving under it, but I still get that gnawing feeling of, what if?
Ta-ta, thankx for tuning in, and for any and all favorable comments and favs.

After the Loma Linda quake in 1989 in the SF bay area I refused to stop under an overpass for red lights, to the dismay of motorists behind me...but I digress. This is really cool, with all that columnar repetition; it kind of reminds me of those bamboo noodle servers. Excellent work capturing this multimonolithic construction!
I could think of allot of things I'd rather not be under in an earthquake. This is one, especially if there were forms of transportation traveling over it at the time. Great shot Harry. Love the shadows allot.
If this were in my town you'd be in danger of having bricks thrown at your windscreen. great pic!
Super shot Harry.
Nice lightplay on those massive columns. Interesting shot of something you see everyday, but don't think about much.
very good light paly for sure
I like the patterns of the supports and the groves behind them. Also noticed the stain, from water dripping through the overhead. Dana
Wonderful picture of lines and a soft shadows. realy lovely the pastel tone.
Just park underneath it in a Chevy Avalanche, and think about how heavy those trains are getting lately, ha ha!
I'm with Rosy on that one.. Not the place I'd want to be during an Earthquake! Cool shot thought Harry.. Rob
I enjoyed reading all the comments as I am enjoying the image Harry! Very well seen and captured! There in SA you are the same danger as Andrea described! :):)
Cool! I was noticing the zig zag pattern created by the angled light and the horizontal beams.
I can't put my finger on it, but you got a luminous "light inside the columns" feel here. There's a real though subtle 'light' coming out of this concrete, and it makes the image very alive. And since this is the unadulterated version, it just shows how good you are with the camera. The sunlight is met with these soft edges, as are the edges of the columns (small point, but real). In fact, you got some very fine articulation of edges & meeting grounds all around. And the diagonals---the zig zag pattern jodie speaks of---are beautiful music too. So the confluence of light, shade & shadow, and the luminous quality of the concrete itself conspire to make this a very special shot, and I think you've done a beautiful job. And it's a nice change of pace between the many panels of your scintillating civil war series, too...
