Description
Not the most exciting picture but here's why I haven't been commenting for the past four days:)
...early on the morning of the fourth day, the fertile Great Plains of Nebraska welcomed me with this brightening scene to the east.
...Weeee, the Cascade and the Rocky Mountains are behind me now! And so is about 1,500 miles of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming.
...it is all downhill from here:-)
...reached Leavenworth (Kansas) on the west bank of the Missouri River late Sunday afternoon..., 1,963 miles from home in Washington state. Not a speck of trouble enroute!
...the entire way I thought about settlers doing this same trip [but going the opposite direction] along the Oregon Trail in covered wagons during the 1840s-1860s.
...I took four days. 19th Century pioneers took 4-6 months depending upon their final destination in the west.
Bill
P.S. This is zoom worthy:)

Beautiful sky and glad that you had a safe trip. If this is a through the windshield shot from a moving car - Marilyn will love it. Dana
Very nice shot!!!
Yay! A 'Drive By Shooting' (copyrighted) lol, shot.. ;-) Ans a really good one at that mate! Super colours.. Outstanding.. Rob
Loved to read about your adventures and your thoughts while on the road, amazing the difference in travel we all take it all for granted now, but wow imagine just no air conditioner in the cars, we are all so spoiled now. At least the pioneers didn't have to worry about tailgaters. :)
Road trip! I also have done this drive more times than I can count...regarding the settlers, there are places in central Oregon where there are still wagon wheel ruts dug deep into the hillsides, testament of their determination to get to the Pacific Northwest. We're lucky it's so much easier now!
Flip Bill that is a journey & a half, I think it is a long way when we go to Edinburgh in one day. Looks like you were travelling early as no one else on the road. Stay safe. xx
Spectacular clouds, Bill! Glad to see someone else does those open road shots through the windshield! With a scene like this, it's hard to resist! Welcome back to the midwest, if only for a little while, my friend! I'm in Clarksville, AR. as I type this. And no, I didn't take the Last Train... LOL!
