Description
Sometimes I worry about myself. I come up with the weirdest stuff!
Maybe I should explain why this is funny. On the other hand, maybe I should just leave well enough alone! LOL!
For those of you whose first language is not English ...
SETI is the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence. It's a research organization that is literally searching the cosmos (or the universe, also known as space) for signs of intelligent life.
SETI uses satellite radio dish receivers in their work, and those receivers tend to point in the same direction in order to amplify any signal that might be coming in. These flowers are shaped much like a radio dish receiver.
For those of you who are botanically challenged no matter what language you speak ... this flower is called a cosmos.
So my photograph and its title form a little pun.
:D

Nice work, Tara! I'm a firm supporter for the SETI project! Of course the Cosmos is the 'official' flower
I like your humor as much as I like your photography. Have you seen the movie Contact? If not, you should watch it. Oh, and before I forget, Cosmos is one of my favorite flowers and I love your photo of it.
I've always loved these flowers.
Nice shot and title lol well done!!
Beautiful!!
HA ! I see what you mean, now that you explained what SETI means. Thank you :-)
Hilarious! I can now imagine them swinging very slowly round in unison. Hey, my sunflowers do that..what are they up to?
Amazing shot!!!!!!!!bravissima!V:DDD.Hugsxx Whylma
Very nicely composed and captured. :)
What a great connection you've made. Faemike55 has it well in hand. These blooms are very pretty and indeed looking for something...a spot of sunshine too:)
A LITTLE pun? LOL! Fantastic title, and a beautiful shot!
A very pure and innocent looking flower and you worked your magic with the Power of 3.
I speak English and had no idea what SETI was, so ty for the 411!! Gorgeous shot, too, btw!!!
Hehe... I know SETI from the film Independence Day!!! We also have cosmos flowers here every April! They grow wild next to most roads in our province! Even in Afrikaans they are pronouced the same just spelled with a K... Kosmos! Wonderful image of one of my fav flowers Tara!
Hehe......I am not speaking English, I only act like I`m speaking English.... Yes, I know what SETI is, they try to telephone to the stars, but nobody calls back! No arms, no legs, or no tentacles? Or no interests? But SETI is soooooo small? I thought it is giantic....hehehe Wonderful flowers pic, Tara, I do not know how we call this beauties here..
Ya know, there's there are plants out there that might actually have the ability to pick up radio transmissions...something to do with sensitivity to the EM spectrum of which visible light is only a very narrow band. No one has yet proved that plants do synthesize foods from other forms of EM radiation...they probably don't, but wouldn't it be a hoot if SETI was listening for radio transmission bubbles from alien societies as chatty as we are only to learn that those pretty flower thingies over in Ethel Higgens' garden have been picking up the Miss Universe beauty pageant for decades...okay, time delayed Miss Universe, back when the contestant from Proxima Centauri was disqualified because it was learned that her tentacles were fake, and that she was only female for half the year. But anyway...I'm rambling. I love the shot and the complex pun in terms of its name. Knowing the name of these flowers, and their habit of pointing in one direction, I'm now in the mood to listen to some music by Vangellis and maybe search YouTube for clips of the Cosmos tv series...just so that I can hear Carl Sagan talking about "billions and billions" of stars..."more stars in the sky than there are grains of sand on the planet earth." Or something like that.
very lovely
wonderful colors warm hugs, Linda Kaye
beautiful!!
I believe there are BILLIONS and BILLIONS of flowers in the cosmos. Nice shot. I'm still waiting to be beamed up by the way.
Beautiful photo, and I love your tie-in with Cosmos and SETI! I had to chuckle at chipka's comments - I loved that show, and listening to Dr. Sagan and his "billions and bilions..." I truly do hope we find intelligent life somewhere out there - there's not much of it on this planet anymore... Of course, the 64,000 dollar question is: If we recieve a signal from somewhere 350,000 light-years away, are they still there? Wadd'ya think, Dr. Hawking, Dr. Kaku?
stunning flowers......i love white
beautiful flowers ... I have SETI on my PC tracking UFOs ...
Beautiful blooms.. I can see why you thought of the title.. They seem to be reaching for the skies.... Lovely shot.. Rob
As long as you are not a Yeti searching the cosmos for SETI... Brilliant - great mind-bending! Clive
I believe these were the models for the dish at Arecibo. Nice tie-in and very pretty flowers.
Sweet looking capture. Love the clarity. Dana
Love that plant...especially the close-up one you took some time back....I'm for SETI...excellent shot
