‘You boys look tired. I'll have some refreshments brought up while we get you signed in,’ Amanda says as they enter her office. Amanda Everglade is in her mid 40's and has had a very colorful and illustrious life thus far. She has outlived three husbands and in the process raised six sons, all but one in their early to late 20’s. Her youngest, Nathaniel, lives with her at this B&B in St. Louis and has just graduated from High School. Amanda is trying to teach him some of the skills necessary to run the business, but right now, he seems more interested in having fun partying around with his hooligan friends and sleeping in late. That’s him crashed out on the couch by the French Doors, sound asleep. Amanda has built a small chain of Bed and Breakfasts with the same architectural theme as this first one. Two of her sons run one in Oklahoma City. The other three are putting the final touches on the latest addition in Los Angeles on Santa Monica Boulevard, near the end of Old Route 66. Ridge has stayed at Amanda’s B&B several times before, but hasn’t been there in a awhile. He remarks at how much Nathaniel has grown since the last time he saw him. Amanda smiles as she glances over at Nathaniel, and tells the travelers how disappointed she is in his behavior lately. ‘He needs some discipline or he will certainly grow up to be a lazy bum. I don’t want that to happen to him!’ she states emphatically. After giving Amanda the information she needs to register them, she assigns them a beautiful suite. They all have a great time visiting, eating the pastries and sipping on the soft drinks a housemaid brought up for them. They sit and visit with Amanda for quite awhile before leaving her to check out their suite. She is such a fun, cultured and interesting personality, it is hard to say goodbye to her. Amanda enjoys their company just as much and doesn’t encourage them to leave. But, they are tired and finally their human weaknesses kick in and they start showing the wear and tear of their recent drive. Rather than bother Amanda with fixing them supper, Clint drives to a nearby fast food joint and brings them back a quick snack.
