Description

Well, have to say I am really stoked on this one! I have been waiting for 2 years to get a shot of this Robber Fly. I believe it is something near a Mallophora fautrix. But no promises. I caught a shot of one a couple years ago but that was on a chainlink fence with the zoom lens (bad shot). Today I got lucky. Went to a local Arboretum and this guy landed right on the stem as I was looking for other insects. He was cleaning himself so pretty docile. The good news, I got a couple great shots, the bad news. A kid decided he would walk past me on the path as I was changing close up filters to get more shots and scared it away. So the 5 I got was all I got. UGH! I can deal with natures issues (wind, hard to reach, etc.) But bums me out when a human blows an opportunity... LOL Anyway, I love this RF, one of the coolest in the world imo. Will post one more of it tomorrow. Thanks for any comments and for looking. -Bruce PS, very minimal crop. PPS Full SIZE for a cool look at it.

Holy moly! Wow! Geeze...how close were you, certainly more than 1:1? This is fantastic. Did you use 50mm with diopters to get a really close look? I could not be so steady even if my macro had stabilization. The 1/200 second is not that fast for a bug shot but you did do it at F/18. To get detail like this seems almost impossible but you have it here and you should be (and I believe you are) very happy with the image. Yikes, I have to quit not or will talk about this one much too much.

What can I say? I really admire your work but I'm beginning to think you must be part insect. You must be secreting a pheremone that makes bugs want to sit near you when you have your camera.

This is stunning. He kinda reminds me of the aliens in a Joe Haldeman short story that I can't recall the name of. They were fuzzy things who only revealed their limbs when they were working or doing business...if you saw their arms, you knew they were busy! THIS reminds me of those friendly aliens with a thing for Euclidian geometry. As a macro shot, this is up to your normal exceptionally high standard, and I'm willing to lose myself in all of the details here! Such a marvelous creature and I love the fact that he's faceless due to the sheer amount of bug fuzz! Marvelous. Simply stunning!
