Description
Nr Hindon Wiltshire UK, this old drovers track and others like it, were fairly major highways in their time. Used to drive sheep and cattle to sheep fairs and livestock markets at certain places on the downs, fairs that would also be used for hiring labour in the farming communities. This particular trackway is known locally as the ox drove, which would suggest that they would have been in use long before sheep and cattle movement. Livestock would have been moved along such tracks for some considerable distance over several counties meaning some considerable time on the road.
