From the Conservatory at Volunteer Park.
This is brugmansia, also known as angel's trumpet. It looks just like datura, or devil's trumpet, except one faces up and one faces down. (Hence the angel and devil bit, on the assumption that heaven is above us and hell is below.)
All parts of this plant are toxic and contain dangerous levels of poison, so don't toss a couple in your salad or feed one to the dog!
Today is my brother-in-law's birthday, and although he doesn't have a gallery here, he does see mine from time to time so ... Happy Birthday David! You're the BBILITWW!

What a beautiful shot of this flower. The first time I ever saw these was at Butchart Gardens and I thought they were so beautiful. And thanks for the botanical lesson - I didn't know there is a Devil's Trumpet.

Oh wow Tara - this is absolutely gorgeous! Your postwork makes it dreamy and luscious! I know these very well! I had one like this and the pink variety in my garden but got rid of them many years ago when I got the dogs!! I do so like their sweet fragrance and they do attract many bees... Happy birthday David! We haven't met (YET) but Tara has told me that you are indeed the "best brother in law in the whole world".

These are widely grown in private gardens all over town here. They also come in 2 or 3 other colors and are most spectacular - which you show here in this stellar capture.

This is lovely. Sounds like they're all devilish. Beautiful but deadly, Hmmmm, where have I heard that before? Film noir? Femme fatals. Barbra Stanwick in Double Indemnity. Lou Reed crooning ...she's a femme fatal... My brain is just a pop-cultural blender. I too am wondering what they smell like and whether or not you can smoke them? Captivating image.
