It is so sad, Jock. To see the graveyard in such a bad way. Hugs. Di. xx
An unnerving sight...and mind-inspiring capture: excellent work!
a terrible picture ... after floods ..?. graves are more respected today! Vive incineration and dispersion to the four cardinal points!

Great shot!
Blacks and poor Whites share so much history in this country, and the sad thing is no one pays attention to that. It actually makes me angry that American "History" completely covers up the fact that there were White slaves and Black Confederate troops, and to see this just shows how terrible some aspects of this country really are. In all honesty, I can understand building a city on top of grave sites...many cities in Europe have tombs in unlikely places, because the cities were simply built over them. One of my absolute favorite bars in Prague exists in a 600 year old building, and the cellar of that building is actually a part of ANOTHER building that it was built on top of...and that older building is actually standing on top of a tomb. You actually walk across that tomb to get to the back bar. Occasionally, people will order wine for themselves and pour some of it on the spot where the tomb exists, sharing their drink with the dead guy. Nobody really knows who he is, but they still treat him like a friend. I think this is quite touching and quite a lot more healthy than simply ignoring the dead, disrespecting them, and allowing their resting places to fall into decay. I also find it terrible that American "history" doesn't really include the people who can't speak for themselves...the poor Whites, the Blacks, the forgotten women and gays and lesbians who built this country shoulder to shoulder with their "heroic" straight neighbors. As for this shot, it's amazing and quite touching! I'm impressed that you even bothered to get this photo and the others. It's truly moving and quite important work. YOU, Jocko, are a historian, and I suspect that the world, or at least the USA is better for it.
wow.. so much history just forgotten...
