Description

Back after a months recovery and feeling better than I have for months! Surgery being a complete success.. Spent a couple of days taking some shots of birds of prey.. This is the smallest of the owls in Australasia/ New Zealand and the most common.. The Southern Boobook feeds on insects, small mammals (such as the House Mouse, Mus musculus) and other small animal species. Feeding takes place mostly at night but some afternoon and morning activity may occur, especially on dull days. Most prey is detected by listening and watching from a suitable tall perch. Once detected, flying prey, such as moths and small bats, are seized in mid-air, while ground-dwelling prey animals are pounced upon

The head is almost football-shaped and it seems to be very compact, as so many of the owls are. The mustache look is interesting. While camping this past weekend, I loved hearing a barn owl in the distance at night as it hunted. One of the more thrilling night sounds for me. Glad you are doing so much better. I've been anxiously awaiting your return. Knowing you are strong enough to haul all of that great photographic equipment you have around to take some shots, does my heart well.

Welcome back to "doing" again Danny:) The type of surgery you and I had can really fix you up and take you back to where you were years ago. Great to hear that is your experience so far:) Love the owl...yet another fascinating design by nature...just right for hunting where he lives.
