summertime
summertime
and the
livin is easy
sun and fun

stay up late
sleep till noon
till mom calls
she has other

wash the car
make your bed
watch your
brothers and
sisters till later
then you can
go out and
have your fun
but be home
by 10

and I say

14 and all grownup
pleeeease
let me stay out
till 11???

Funny how well I remember this!
So here I was, all set to add those Summertime lyrics to my comment, and you anticipated it and inserted your own instead. I wonder if that's fair. Oh well, a really stellar bit of lighting and color in the adjoining image, M, and I liked your original prose following the initial Summertime introduction.
Ahhhhhh ... we finally had a seriously summer day today. Thought it would never come! This was a perfect read after today's weather. :)
Great work and words, well done!!
Fourteen...yup, remember it well. All the summertime things... And a new town, new friends, new school for my freshman year in high school. Such a mixed bag of wanting to be grown up but not having half the resources to pull it off:) Well done Marilyn...lotsa' memories. All your writing is so easy to read and follow. Your English teachers were among the best!
Mow the lawn was the killer for me - the grass never ended. Sweet poem and super photo. Great combination. Dana
Fond memories - from so long ago. It was good to be bored too, not appreciated enough.
How did I miss this!? Oh well...it happens. I saw it now and I must say I like it quite a bit. I never had brothers and sisters to look after, so I guess in a way I was either lucky or not...but yeah, getting mom to agree to sensible things was like pulling teeth from some wild animal. I love the pacing of this poem, the cadence...it's both poetic and conversational and that's the bit that works the best. You have this really great conversational tone that really works well with sucking readers in and opening stuff up. Yeah, this is great!
