Description

The 2,427 room Stratosphere Hotel and Casino towers 1,149 feet (350.2 meters) above the Las Vegas strip and is the tallest building in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is also the fifth tallest structure in the United States. The structure at the bottom of the tower is the 24 story hotel and casino portion. The Stratosphere is the northernmost of the major Strip casinos and the only one actually in the City of Las Vegas, as the rest of the Strip, south of Sahara Avenue, is in the unincorporated townships of Paradise and Winchester. There is an outside viewing deck, restaurant and gift shop at the top. To add to the magic, there is a roller coaster running around the top edge, above the restaurant, and if you ZOOM – there is a death drop above that – as part of the large radio antenna on the top. See my next posting. Some information from Wikipedia. Photo taken in the April of 1998, with a hand held film camera and recently scanned. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. Dana

Amazing! It has me wondering though, if you're enjoying the vertigo-inducing stuff on top of the tower itself, do your dental fillings get hot as they would in so radio-receptive an environment? At any rate, this is quite fascinating, and I love the upward sweep you've captured here. WOW!

A futuristic scene right out of a Star Trek episode! Stellar photo of the handsome structure, reminiscent of the Space Needle in Seattle, Dana. And, cool contrast of it against the diagonal contrail above.
