Description
Found myself at the deCordova Sculpture garden in Lincoln, Massachusetts, USA. This is Tom Chapin's Mamma, completed in 2007. It is done in bronze and it is 75 inches high and 60 inches in diameter. I could see Mammas face but I am not going to venture into any other body parts. I was torn between Objects or Abstract.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments.

Hmmmm, Great Mother, Mut, Earth Mother. All are fitting. Great capture
Cool sculpture! Great capture!
remind me of the art of the old testemant age where they worship motherhood. this is a cool shot
Interesting sculpture. She's a full figured gal for sure. Very nice capture.
very interesting ! great shot
bonne photo!!
Is that the same Tom Chapin who is a folk singer and is the brother of Harry Chapin?
Interesting.
Great capture! Interesting artwork. ;)
Interesting shot and sculpture ;-)
fantastic sculpture!! She looks like a 3D paleolithic goddess!! excellent capture!!!
Looks like a giant pine cone if not for the female contours!
It amazes me what the artists see when they are doing their art :o) Great capture thouigh!!!!
superlative image great capture
Mamma's heads, dwarfed by enormous mammaries, with relatively small thighs, and apparently pregnant, equally positioned all around her circumference. And I'm torn between black plums and bowling balls. In any event, an excellent capture of Tom Chapin's labor of love, Dana.
Interesting sculpture !Very original! Beautiful capture , Dana
I feel sorry for Tom Chapin, his mother must hate him. He should have gone to Specsavers.
Interesting sculpture, Dana... great shot!
Cool sculpture shot my friend.
Very nice!
What a primordial statue! WOW! I can't remember the goddess in particular, but there IS a goddess (Greek, I think) often portrayed like this, and yeah, she's maternal. There's some debate as to whether or not she's wearing a complex necklace made of eggs, or if the suspiciously mammary objects protruding from her upper torso are multitudes of...well...divine mammary glands! At any rate, this statue recalls THAT statue in a more abstract way, and as a photograph it's quite a stunning piece of work. Who knows, maybe it's not a statue at all, but photographic evidence that Earth is receiving extraterrestrial visitations, and that the extraterrestrials in question aren't gray! Marvelous. I love this!
I agree with Chipka, I immediately thought of the very old goddess-statues that date all the way back to the stone age. Either that or the artist has a serious fixation with a certain anatomical feature... Best not to go there, eh? The second thing that crossed my mind seems like an odd thing at first glance but then maybe not: a bunch of grapes. Seriously, doesn't it look like a bunch of grapes? And what's the best use of grapes but wine, and what says romance better than wine? So, yeah maybe a bit of a fixation after all... This is a cool shot, the textures of the bronze are critical to this statue and you've got them captured superbly for this.
yep me too was thinking of this very old stone age statue... i am certain it has benn the inspiration to this artwork... a fine shot!
