Description
This is a photo I took of a photographer taking a photo just off I95 in central Florida many years ago. We pulled to the side of the road to take some shots. This was with a film camera and I just scanned in the print today. There is a warmth to film photography that seems so hard to capture with digital. Something about it seems timeless to me, what do you think?

I agree, digital captures never seem to get that look and always seem harsh in comparison...then it's off to photoshop, but I suppose having instant access to the final in seconds instead of sometimes days is a modern time saving (?) syndrome. Anyhow super result and ~Cheers~
Well I used to love developing my own films etc, but I have to say that digital is just sooo easy. And with the commercial work that I do, using the digital means I can take endless amounts of shots and then pick which ones are my faves! I do think though that it was really fun learning and following the process through from camera to final print, and also because film cost money it used to force us photographers to think and take extra care before shooting! If your average 35mm film can potentially contain at least 10 megapixels worth of resolution, then for me a good quality digital system that includes a quality sensor and lens surpasses film and is now more comparable with the quality achievable with medium format.

Yeah, this has warmth galore. There's a softness to it as well, something vaguely romantic in the sense of quite a lot of classical work focused on nature and pastoral subjects. I love the human focus. Okay, the sunset is the focus, but the woman making her own photograph really ramps up the human interest aspect of this picture and brings it all together in an interesting way, for me. I like the idea of capturing a moment in such a way as to capture someone else capturing that moment. NO matter who that woman is (whether a friend, stranger, or family member,) there's a link, and I like that kinda stuff.
We should not forget our film cameras. I even have a working Polaroid, and inherited my father's Olympus and uncle's camera, who were both photography buffs. We still have our old Canon AE-1, and we plan on using that to the fullest. But the digital is so handy, and instant, and digifiddly good. ;c) Pros and cons to both. This is a fantastic shot, and as you say, there is a warmth to it. I'm sure it could be approached in the same way with digital, but one must compare, and learn.
Where I work, people donate perfectly good 35mm SLRs. so I've a few very nice cameras to work with as well as my Canon Powershot. Wonderful capture here. She looks so intent on capturing the sunset!
