Description
Cleaning up the attic and found a box of old photos. Started to scan a few. Not all that happy with the outcome. Forty four years in 3 different attics, winter cold, summer heat, and mat finish B&W – well this is the results.
I was a helicopter crewman on a US Navy Sikorsky SH-3A Sea King Anti-submarine warfare helicopter for the US Navy. This same type of helicopter that was used to transport US Presidents and pick up US astronauts returning from space flights.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments.

and you look so serious here. Great shot. At least you have the photos to scan.
Wow---this is great--I love these kinds of old shots!!
My son was in the Navy but he was on a carrier,, the John C. Stennis out of San Diego, he did get to go up in some helicopters though during some training.. Nice photo of you. :)
Nice transport.
Sea Kings have only just been replaced by Merlins here in UK and are still a favourite with air sea rescue. Good find and interesting shot!
oh how nice you still have got them old shots and you did so well in scanning them and making them last a bit longer...smile
wonderful portrait!! Great that you are scanning the old photos!!
Great picture, we live quite close to the Royal Naval Air Station, Yeovilton so get to see a lot of flying here.
beau souvenir!!
Great photo, or as jmb007 so elegantly says it in French.."beau souvenir"!
What a good memories for you Dana..in 66 I have only 5 years old ;-)
Great portrait of your self my friend,
Love looking at old photos!! Looks like a very heavy duty helicopter!!!
I am always fascinated by these shots, especially when someone is looking all resolute and determined, and so terribly efficient. I always wonder what those people are looking at and what they're thinking. This is really well done, and for all of the time and weathering in attics, it survived quite nicely. Maybe I'm a weirdo too, but I was immediately drawn to "HEATER INTAKE PORT" in that military-standard stenciling, as well as instructions on how to work the exit release. Show me a great picture with some historical significance, and I'm immediately drawn to instructions on how to open a door! That's so typical of me! Of course I'm also a bit curious as to what you were thinking and looking at, as this picture was taken. Feel free to post zillions of others like this.
Great scaned picture, a bit of history.
A beautiful memory, Dana! Good work with your scanner. (I just started taking pictures with an old Kodak bellows)
I love old pics like Chipka, I too hope we see more. Great photo!!!!
Fine redo of an old photo Dana. While you were doing that in the Navy, I was sloshing around in the rice patties of the Vietnam Delta as an adviser. Best wishes for Memorial Day:)
Fasinating picture from the past. Once I was financing that kind of helicopter (I worked in a french bank).
Really good scan job of this old hidden gem, Dana! I'm afraid all I can think of to say has been covered in the previous comments.
It's great to see where you were then!!!
thanks for your service and that you returned alive.outstanding shot
Terrific image! I think it came out very nicely. I noticed the exit instructions too. I think it's all those arrows. Which I guess, means the designers did a good job, since they obviously want these instructions to be noticed. Great photo of you!
wow fabulous photo of you ! thank you for serving and all that you did
Oh to be young, stupid and immortal once again! Fantastic photo and great look intothe past.
