That last train nearly took off my head as I stood in to look closely at the textures. No, I'm not deaf, just obsessive when I focus on a source of fascination...

I have always loved trains but what do I see when I look at a railroad grade crossing? Nothing much because I am thinking of engines, railcars, etc. Now, you've made a point...look at what is right under your nose...there's probably a picture there! Well seen and abstracted for our benefit. Love it :*

Some years ago when I was co-chairman of a now extinct Kansas City photography club, we had a guest speaker - can't recall his name, now. He put on a fantastic presentation of photos of the most common, ordinary, everyday, normally unnoticed things. Plastic cups and forks. Puddles of water in parking lots (with that rainbow light oil coating on top). Frames filled with nothing but fuzzballs on top of dandelion plants. It was amazing, and an eye-opener. You photo here reminds me of that presentation, and of the fun we all had for the next several weeks seeing the possibilities in the commonplace that makes up so much of life. Thanks for reminding us of what is there to be enjoyed. Magnificent! Wonderful textures and patterns. Bravo, Tara!

Very nice. I've seen too many suicides on train tracks in my life so thats what I first thought of. Very thought provoking photo for me. Do you guys have a third rail there just out of interest? From memory you do. We don't but have those ugly overhead wires FYI.
Count, muse, ponder, ruminate, and think about all the parts and labor that went into this image of abstract patterns? Sorry, I appreciate their efforts, but I don't have the time or incentive to devote to such matters.
Train whistle blowing makes a sleepy noise / Underneath their blankets go all the girls and boys / Rockin', Rollin', Ridin', out along the bay ... Like Bill I love trains and this makes me think of locomotives and rail cars and jiggers etc lol.. Nice memories from your abstract photo lol..
What an image and I love the narrative with it, especially the last line. Yes, I have a theory that when a photographer goes "ooh, pretty" all of the counting, measuring, and seeing has taken place in the amount of time it takes a thought to spark through a synapse. What would take hours (if not days) to explain in detail all occurs in a photographers brain in a span of milliseconds. And as for this shot! WOW! It's an amazing closeup view of something so easily taken for granted. Great light and shadows, and great color--there are so many grades of color in this that I spend a while counting and recounting and debating with myself if that tawny color is actually distinct from that wheat color...or are tawny and wheat simply different names for the same general color? Oh what fun that was! What fun this image is too! WOW! I like this a lot!
The phrase about the forest for the trees comes to mind. Great art hides in plain sight everyday. You have developed a wonderful ability to 'see' it. Fabulous stuff!
