Description
Un-Docking
Just over 28 hours have passed since the successful first test launch of the new re-designed ARES 1 booster and its CRC payload, for 24 of these hours the CRC has being successfully docked with the ISS.
It is now time for the most complicated part of the mission so far Un-Docking, Remote-Piloting and Re-Entry.
Minutes after its un-docking from the ISS, remote signals from Mission Control fire the CRCs manoeuvring thrusters to bring it into the correct position for re-entry interface into Earths atmosphere.
Once in the correct position another set of signals will fire the CRCs thrusters again to slow the craft so that it will re-enter Earths atmosphere at the correct altitude and angle.
Too high an angle and the craft will bounce off the atmosphere and go shooting off into deep space, too shallow an angle and the craft will re-enter but burn-up.
