Description
Hello everyone and thanks for looking...
I was looking back through my gallery, and it seems it's been a while since I've posted any pictures with male characters in them. Now, while I have a great appreciation for the female form, I should every now and then use some of the stuff I have for the opposite sex in a picture or two, just to prevent you all from thinking I'm some sort of crazy person, don't you think?
Also folks, I need your help with a problem...
I rendered this picture in Poser 7, using 3 lights and the render settings slider bar pushed up to it's highest Firefly setting (Final). The lights are one blue infinite light with no shadows set to about 20% strength, one IBL with no shadows set to about 20%, and one spot light with raytraced shadows set to 100% and shadow blur radius set at 4.00.
Around the edges of the clothing, hair, and anything that casts a shadow close to another object, the shadows all have this jaggy unnatural look to them. Usually, I fix this in post work using my handy dandy pen tablet and Photoshop Elements.
I know there must be a way to get rid of this effect during rendering, but I haven't found a way to do it. This is really frustrating, and this picture finally made me want to ask for help. Does anyone know what's causing this and how I can fix it???
Thanks in advance to the community out there, and as always, I really appreciate your comments and assistance.

I took your advice and re rendered the image, and I was amazed at the difference! The biggest effect was from the shading rate setting on the advanced render tab. Not only did it reduce the 'jaggies' on the shadows, it brought out a lot more detail in all the textures. It did add a little render time, but the result is definitely worth it. Many many thanks to chasfs and Madbat for your suggestions!

Excellent scene.
Very cool scene.
Great render!!!
wonderful posing!!
Well I can't give advice on the shadow and light thing, but i do like the image. :)
Beautiful romantic render, Tom!!!!!!
Good pose and interesting lighting.
great scene and posing tom ur work is always terrific...
Push up the Map Size on the light(s) that carries the shadow, 1024 is a good size rather than 256 or whatever the default is (this is on the Light Parameters menu) Or go to Properties and have the shadow ray traced, with the Ambient Occlusion set down to .2 I think it is, some much lower value than the default. If you have the GND V4 version, I think she came with a light tutorial in the readme for Ambient Occlusion settings--Blackhearted also has at least one light set that talks about good setting in the readme as well. I hope this helps and I have understood the nature of your problem! I love these guys' pose--it's so complex yet elegant!
Excellent composed scene my friend, superb work on the poses and lighting....very well done love it.
Beautiful work Sweetie!
You did very lovely pic.
No idea about your render problem. I've got the technichal savvy of a teste fly.
WOW Very beautiful instant fav
very well done
Great lighting hair looks good to me. I'm not a big fan of 3D hair to un-natural have you thought of painted hair ?
Great scene, very well composed!
Where can I find me one of those guys? Those abs...! I'm swooning. Awesome render looks like you solved the problem nicely. Thanks for all your support also!
Impressive and powerful composition. Fantastic poses and light!
Super job here. missed the original so presume it has all worked out because the shadow work looks excellent now. Yea, never stick to the basic settings given in poser. Always import into advanced and then fiddle with them. One thing that can save a huge amount of render time is to reduce the ray trace bounces to only 2. In an image like this with no reflecting or transparent surfaces it is a waste of render time to go above 2 bounces. You will greatly speed up your renders and/or be able to render much more complicated scenes with only 2 bounces. I rarely use more than 2. Only if I have a lot of reflects or glass will I go above 2 and 4 is absolute max ever. There is no improved image quality above 2 bounces unless you have transparency, glass or strongly reflecting metalic surfaces.
Superb pose and lighting ! Great characters !
Beautiful image. Research and hard work paid off. Great lighting and camera angle. The lighting really works on their skin. Nice job on the poses too.
wonderful scene
