Description
Every spring I get a lot of these in my grass. Though I don't have a lot of luck getting great shots of them.
I do find them to be some of the most interesting flies around. Common, but very cool looking heads/faces.
As a kid I always thought these were Mosquitoes. We called them Daddy Long Legs (Like the spiders). But alas they are harmless flies.
Thanks for looking.

We call these Daddy-long-legs, and the spiders 'Harvestmen'. This is an astonishing close-up, Bruce..most remarkable to view this creature in such detail! Thankyou!
Wonderful shot and fantastic detail..!!
fantastic macro!!!!!
Good picture, really nice work!
What an interesting looking fly. Nicely captured.
Fantastic detailed image!
great!!
I think this is one of the best macros of a Daddy longlegs i'v ever seen.
Great shot! Like you, we get these around hear a lot. My dad always called them Mosquito Hawks.
That is a common name for them too mbz
Awesome image!
outstanding!
I've seen them hundreds of times but never gave them a second thought. I will look closer next time for sure. No doubt, I will not see this much detail. Excellent shot! Puts them in a different light for me. Thanks, NightGallery!
We call the harvestmen "daddy long legs" here. Funny differences in customs and names. Excellent shot!
Superb capture my friend.
Pin sharp.
Great work, fantastic capture.
I'm flabbergasted, what a capture.
What a bizarre critter, I don't recall ever seeing one before. I can see where "crane" applies though. Awesome capture of the fellow. : )
wow, awesome shot! I like how you can see the detail in his eyes! Awesome!!!
WOW! A gollywhopper! Well, some people call them that, and I guess it's because in insect terms, are pretty big: whoppers in fact. I went browsing through your gallery to find this guy, at least I think it's a guy. Can't see the abdomen to be sure, but that's okay. What details. I've seen precious few with this particular pattern, most of the ones in my neck of the woods are a bit more amber. I love the way you captured all of the intense details...their heads may be a wee bit on the small side, until you realize just how complex their folding mouthparts are...rather like Swiss Army knives of mouthparts! WOW...what details. This is amazing!
