Description
Ah, Spring arrives and so does news of the Royal Navy's top secret Star-Raker rocket. In the summer it will take the Navy's first astronaut into space, Captain Micheal Twaddle RN, former commanding officer of Her Majesty's Submarine "Vicious".
Twaddle is well known for his act of heroism when he rescued the crew of the Russian trawler "Olga Gerremovski" when it went down in turbulent seas.
The rocket is by Duo. Cars by DMI, and the gantry was a freebie.
The Dragonfly helicopter and the building were built by me in Truespace. The chopper has a very basic texture.
Thanks for looking.

cool 50's style sci-fi scene - great render!
A wonderful series of Retro covers!
Nice cover, I almost remember this from my schooldays! Funny how they used to put big wings on the rockets in those days - really a 1950s style. By 1957 real rockets without wings were putting satellites into space. Dragonflys (early 50s) would also suit an earlier cover date. Very nice work!
An excellent pastiche of the magazines of the period. Spot-on.
Way cool work.
Excellent work!
wonderful series!!!
Fraccin love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.wix.com/winteroud/CHRONOS-PRODUCTIONS
This whole series is just freaken amazing, absolutely top notch work thanks for sharing!
Another fantastic cover!
Thanks for the comments. These covers are a "what if" type of thing - they are not meant to reflect reality. Real space exploration is bland and colourless with boring rockets and dull missions. What I am presenting is a fantasy world - where BRITAIN leads the space race, rockets have fins and Professor Quatermass exists.
Loving these "what if" covers Iain. First Quatermass with Brian Donlevy or Andrew Kier and now Kenneth More. Who to interviw next... Rod Taylor ... Edward Judd.
Well, since Quatermass is real, they couldn't interview Nigel Kneale... but Edward Judd... yes, stalwart of some really good early 60s SF - "Day the Earth Caught Fire", "Invasion" and of course, "First Men in the Moon"... great idea!!
Interesting presentation!
You know, I relly love artworks with this retrofuturistic mood!
The backstory is great too.
Wonderfully put together!
