Description
I’ve found a second nesting Great Blue Heron with a new born chick. The chick still has his white “pin feathers”. You can’t believe the size of this nest. He will turn gray in a few weeks. Herons are about 46 inches (117cm) long and a wingspan of 72 inches (183cm). Taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments and favs.

Fantastic capture! One thing about this site, you'll be ready for any game show!
Excellent capture! So, do they nest on the ground or are you climbing trees to get the shot?
This nest was on a low bush, on a small island, surrounded with water. No climbing involved, thank goodness. This is the same place those gators were. No way I’m getting near the water. I’ll continue to watch this nest and post the chicks progress. Dana
Sparkingly stellar clarity, focus, textures and composition in this show of the nurturing Blue Heron, Dana! And that nest is awesome.
Really awesome capture! Stay warm and safe.
Great find and a very clear and natural wildlife shot.
Great image.
Wonderful shot , Dana !!!!!
This Heron looks more like the one in the UK Gteat shot.
great capture of heron , I love animals too, have a lovely valentines' day
His mum looks cross, wonder what he's done. Great capture, not surprised the nest is big!!!!
Wonderful!
I know we have Herons here but I've never seen a nest yet. Nice capture of the baby chick and Parent. Aloha
wonderful capture!!
An excellent shot Dana!
Excellent capture!
Great shot Dana!
wonderful picture! Soo nice "baby"!!!!
they build they nests where gators are to protect them from the small mammals that can climb trees. But if they build they nest on a small tree of bust a big gator can and have hit the tree and knock the nest down and they eat the babies. so it a tought call on where to build. The birds do fight with each other for a good place to build they nest
Dana this is a great shot, and after zooming in I spotted another chick in there too. Fabulous photography as always, hugs Jane xx
Amazing image my dear friend, this is gorgeous, love it!
VERY BEAUTIFUL!!!
Wow, another wonder! I've seen some nests here, but no activity. Maybe it's early for babies yet? Great capture!
Amazing bird and nest! Wonderful shot! I love the way she is all scrunched up and stands protectively over her chick. What an intent stare she has! Beautiful capture!
Marvelous bird
What a wonderful capture!
I wouldn't go near water either! Excellent shot, Dana!
Wonderful shot! :)
Beautiful shot!
This is a marvelous picture! I love the mohawk hairdo pattern of those white "pin feathers" and the proud and protective parent is just downright elegant. This is superb work!
