Singing Through My Tears
Singing a song
For my friend
With tears in
My eyes
And sorrow
In my heart
We joined
Our voices
To send her
On her way
It was
A joyful noise
Goodbye JoAnn
I know
You're there
I felt you
As I
Sang through
My tears
We buried JoAnn today, but wow, what a send off. SRO at the church, laughter, tears, all the things that come with the loss of someone so special. And the oddest thing happened. After the funeral Mass, we were all going to the graveside services as well. I left a little after everyone else, and then could not find the cemetery. This isn't exactly the biggest town in California, but nope, I never did find it. So, I just came home, changed my clothes and went for a walk. JoAnn walked as well, and I felt her as though she was at my side. And she was.

Lovely words Marilyn. I'm glad you got through it alright, and your friend will be always with you.. Hugs Barry ..
Oh Hun - big hugs.... I have been thinking of you all this time! What wonderful words and thoughts to send JoAnn on her way! She will always be in your heart! Stand strong my friend.
Beautiful! it must have been meant, not finding it!
yes, with andrea, maybe it was meant to be that way. Maybe you just needed to find the graveside in the universe, like she---a soul who just couldn't die---was brought to the soils of the whole cosmos. And given your communion with ocean and vast open spaces and those primal landscapes that the ocean leaves in its wake, and shore walks & redwoods & on and on, maybe they all called you deep down and said, "she's waiting for you here!" as you said yourself. And as for the amazing 'gelling' that took place in the service, isn't it amazing how a gathering like that seems to be fueled by the joy of the passed soul herself? As if she inspired everyone, even in sadness, to sing with her and dance with her? It can be tumultuous & transcendent and I'm glad it was that. JoAnn's life demanded that. I hope the connections you all had at the service linger for a while too & stays with you...It's a real glow! Blessings to you marilyn. A simple beautiful upload; and there's a bit of your ocean there too (I assume), gracing your poem & words...
Well done. A beautiful sign of love and respect for your dear friend. Hugs Hon.
The words are beautiful and you have honored her greatly Marilyn...It is my personal belief that we have our loved ones with us always, there is no doubt in my mind that she walked beside you, that she sees the words you wrote and feels your pain and yet she too was probably singing and dancing along with all of you at her service. Such a long friendship you had with her, not many of us are that lucky. The friendship was obviously blessed, its obvious you loved her very much and I'm sure she loved you. You were meant to miss the cemetery that day, but you will find it, she will lead you there. I hope you will tell us when you do...blessings, love and light to you!
Beautiful and inspiring remembrance, which shows that you have an everlasting connection with JoAnn. I wish you peace and joyful memories.
a memory to smile and remember a friend wonderful work warm hugs, Linda
beautiful dedi to a good friend my friend
This is beautiful, Marilyn. Your love for JoAnn comes through in every line.
This is gorgeous. There's a word in Japanese that is ironically spelled "Aware" in English. In Japanese, it's pronounced Ah-wah-ray. It's an emotion that can't really be described in English...a kind of sad contentment. Or something equally contradictory: a bit like climbing a mountain and reaching that point just above the tree line, where you're the only living thing, apparently. Aware is similar to that feeling you get when you reach the desolation of the mountain peak, and you feel completely alone and isolated and when you feel all of the negative components of those emotions, only to feel a sense of calm and very subtle elation because you look off in the distance and see a single bird in flight. That is how this piece strikes me. Very "Aware" and Aware. This is fantastic.
