Hmmmmm, hmm. The grid sets this image miles apart from any "typical" Chicago photograph:) And although I've looked at this view before now, the monotone/B&W this morning is making a big impact on me visually...as I stare and appreciate what you've done with your POV.

more of your amazing work with light & its dissolving effect on edges and landscapes and cityscapes etc. And your juxtapositions are wonderful. Not only the grid, which is captured like an exploding series of vectors almost defining the city behind it (like seeing a city through a grid on a computer), but the quality of light & form in the buildings, beautifully toned and angled (good angle!) with the bean shining in its little nook like a hidden jewel! A terrific photo, and you chose just the right tone of b, w & sepia to set it off. Man, this series is just jumping for the stars. Wonderful work all around.
I agree that the grid pattern sets this apart from most Chicago images, and yet it's such a Chicago thing. Rather like Chicago as it truly appears (from that spot) and not what a tourist would allow herself to see because expectations of Chicago replace the reality of the city. WOW! And on top of that, there's so much in it. There's the bean, there are different buildings I can't think to name, the lake is there, even though it isn't a physical presence. Even the south side is there, and it's good that you didn't subject me to actually seeing it. Photography works perfectly when it does that, when it opens itself up to a reality beyond what's pictured. This is superior work, but then your work is "top class" work as a particular Russian would say.
