are opportunities for learning
and moving forward,
not for reliving over and over,
stuck in others' expectations.
Shedding expectations turns
the blushing burn
into a warm inner glow,
a plant growing to the light.
Trust yourself to find
the path through the blots
and deeper tones
to the silence
that speaks directly
to your soul.

I wrote the words for my friend Linda (Hipps13, the Toothpick Fairy) in July (see Japanese Alley), and the image is a variant of the one I sent her for her birthday (see A Gift From Faroutsider).

Craig, your image is exquisite as the earlier version for Linda is as well. The way you've turned her hair into strands of light, all the fractal-like lines within her face (esp the luminous blue, which feels like energy lines running through her face), your combinations of violets & earth tones & greens in her face (beautifully done), and the mix of sweeping lines with an almost marble-background add up to a portrait of great energy and deep inner peace. It's beautiful. And your poem is a primer in trusting oneself and one's journey above all. Stated like a gentle imploring, and very loving. It has music in it too...I'm only partly familiar with Linda's gallery, but I've been deeply impressed with her words & images everytime I've been there. A beautiful dedi to her, and a wonderful image for the new year. I'll be back for more after the 1st, but I wanted to wish you a wonderful new year Craig, to thank you for your visits to my gallery even when I was barely visiting anyone, for the deep quality of your comments to me and wherever else I've had the privilege of seeing them, and for giving this site not only your unique & beautiful art, but your words & feelings, and your gentle & always loving presence.
