Description

The “Enchanted Hill" high above the ocean at San Simeon, was the creation of two extraordinary individuals, William Randolph Hearst and architect Julia Morgan. Their collaboration, which began in 1919 and continued for nearly 30 years, transformed an informal hilltop campsite into the world-famous Hearst Castle, a 115-room main house plus guesthouses, pools, and 8 acres of cultivated gardens.

I think they both would have heartily approved of this image. Wonderful composition with Hearst Castle sitting in dominate splender on the hill. The undulations of the hillside are beautiful and lead the eye to the magnificience on at the top. Excellent capture! I know a little bit about Hearst Castle. I'm looking forward to learning more!

I like a little house set where you can't even see your neighbors .. much less hear what shows they watch on TV at night. Really .. that's some nice privacy. If Citizen Kane was based upon Hearst, this certainly was his Xanadu. I like the color tone of this image. Combined with the composition, the tone gives the feel of a c.1890s postcard. This could easily be a palatial estate in the mountains of Morocco. In fact, if you had not told me this was California, the U.S. would be one of the last places I'd guess this to be. It's a really nice scene, Mark. It feels like a painting. T.R.

Can't count how many times I've driven by here. In April I come to this area for the seals. The beaches are literally covered in seals. ;~)

I agree with Terry, I initially thought it was somewhere in the middle east. I love the POV, it adds to the mystery of the scene and does give it a painterly effect.
