Description
The trans-Andean highway connecting Mendoza, Argentina with Santiago, Chile uses this pass. It is the main connection that all trucks use. This picture was taken at the Chilean entrance to the 3,080m (10,105-ft) long Tunel Cristo Redentor. The elevation here is 3,175m (10,417-ft). The Argentine entrance to the tunneel is at an elevation of 3,500m (11,483-ft). The approach to the tunnel from the Chilean side incorporates about 30 switchbacks and trucks are creeping up and down at a snails pace.
