Description
This is fan art trying to depict the beginning battle of Echo Base on Hoth, in "Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back"
This is an entry for an "80's Contests" that peaked my interest.
I tried to capture the feel of the 80's, and added a lot of noise for a film grain affect. I really wanted to get away from that obvious 3D look that I often have, and get that great movie feel to it. I had to do a lot of texture work on this with the Snowspeeders and the ATAT Imperial Walkers. Trying some new things, and learning a little bit along the way.
I used Poser for model setup, Vue for rendering, and lots of Photoshop. Thanks for looking, let me know what you think.
Highly suggest viewing this in full view
*Edit:
At grafikeer and mikeerson's suggestion I added some jet flares, thanks for the feedback.

This is extremely effective! Excellent sense of speed and you capture the feel of the movie!
Well Done
Fantastic scifi. Great work!!
Wow, you did a great job on the motion blur, the snow, it's all fantastic!
Star Wars is all about speed and motion and you nailed it here!
That flying snow stuff makes the image, and that is a tough effect to get so perfect! Fantastic job!
Great motion blur effect and sense of speed...really like the POV and sense of distance,as well as the feel of it being a scene from the movie...only crit would be the lack of engine flares, but that's minor.Great work!
Great scene! I can feel the speed, and the cold.
Awww man...this would look fantasic if it was an animation.... Oh wait...it actually came from an animation... Still....looks fantastic...more please! :)
Excellent
Outstanding render - well done! Now, I've gotta break out those movies again!
Great memories! Thanks and this is a great image!

Nicely done. Could well be a frame grab from the movie.
Great motion blur,nice render
Whoa...amazing sense of motion.
I think it all looks great - I'd just suggest adding some light effects to the engines - been a long time since I seen this movie, wish Lucas would take the original crew of actors and make a new star wars with them.
Superb work!!!!
nice work...
Fantastic dynamic image!
Looks fantastic, real sense of speed and the tilted angle adds to the drama, very well done!
Absolutely stunning! The motion blur, the focus, the angle and perspective - not to mention the spot-on depiction of an iconic scene are all absolutely FANTASTIC! :D
great scene and pov - cool sense of movement!
Oh wow, this is good, like you lifted a cell off the movie itself. It has a very strong sense of movement. Very nice..
Real sense of movement. Snow needs to be whiter.
this is freakin' cool.... not only is it from my favorite movie, but it's an awesome render as well.. :)
