Description
Another Axis aircraft brought to the USA at the end of WWII for technical study and evaluation.
By 1945, this Kawanishi N1K2-Ja was the most advanced fighter available to the Japanese. It was designed to counter the high flying B-29 bombers.
It was also called the Shiden Kai (Japanese for "Violet Lightning-Improved") and was called the "George" by the Allies.
This aircraft is one of only three surviving restored examples in the world.
I have left an extremely faint copy of the Museum background to provide minimal context for this image. Zooming helps.

Looks like a large plane, P-47'ish. This is a new one on me, (adds to list). You could make a great calender with these shots..
Superb work, Bill!
It looks like it is flying at night & the landscape is below, great pic.
@ 1th I thought it was a macro from a model kit, cool shot an pw
What a stuning presentation of this plane...
Excellent work on this cool looking flying machine Bill! Well done indeed! :)
Did not know of this aircraft. Thanks bill.
There are times when your work just stops me in my tracks. This is spectacular! Absolutely top drawer, my friend. (And I'm saying this about an airplane pic, so you KNOW it's good! LOL!)
Fantastic picture.
EXCELLENT
magnificent shot and work!!!
Another great shot..the dark backgrounds really draw the attention to the planes themselves..
Wow--this is simply spectacular---beautiful work, Bill!!
Planes very fatal lol It is with those that they they going the camicases Direction on the place more striking. But good. Cheer and Superb mile mercies work ((5++)) Des avions très meurtrier lol C'est avec ceux là qu'ils fesaient les camicases Direction sur l'endroi le plus frappant . Mais bon . Bravo et mile mercis Superbe travail ((5++))
The post work is superb...the very faint traces of the museum add to the spectacular lines of the aircraft itself. It looks predatory, like some really weird deep-sea fish (the kind with jaws and teeth that comprise 70% of their bodies) only it isn't a deep sea fish. I love the colors. They really stand out against the near black. In short, this is yet another fantastic photograph.
ASTONISHING WORK
great work Bill!
Magnificent lighting effects in another elegant presentation of your military aircraft of the past, Bill! The Japanese really went in for big conical nose spinners. I thought it was a Mitsubishi Zero at first. Almost looks like a P-47 Thunderbolt from here.
VERY cool idea to leave it just noticeable...love your photo manipulation Bill!!
Nicely done! Works out well.
Superb!
excellent light and POV ! Love the contrast too
