Description
Took my wife out to the lava fields today. Half way out there, a white dog started to follow us. This dog usually hangs around the county viewing area. It was a little to late to shoo him back so we let him accompany us. When we were close to the hot areas, I went ahead of my wife leaving her in the safe area while I surveyed the danger areas. The dog started to howl as if to either tell my wife to keep up or stay away from the hot areas. The dog knew exactly which was old and which was new lava. Eventually, I did find a safe place for my wife to view the lava ooze. The dog howled for about a half minute. On our return trip, the dog led the way back. He knew exactly where to go......better than my GPS that I carry. Amazing Dog! Aloha and thank you for viewing....

Beautiful photo! Dogs have a way of knowing these things. The fact that the dog set itself up as your guide/guardian angel is touching!
Errol you photos get better and better. That dog sounds like a true 'Lava Lover'! Andrew
I think that dog was an angel sent to keep you safe--and he did. You came back with yet more beautiful fotos!!

Great shot. Keep the dog and call him Scout. :)
I'm guessing the dog was able to tell by the temperature in his feet right?? Poor guy probably had some very warm pads when he got home... Cool shot Errol!!!! Aloha...

Sounds like that dog ought to charge for taking you there and back safely....but it was worth if for this image! Aloha~
Something about animal instinct that can't be beat. When an animal starts to use his head he loses his instinct. Hey, this is a fabulous shot and the story is really outstanding.
very amazing!
That sounds to be a very savvy dog. How marvellous the lava looks at night.
I hope you rewarded his diligence in warning you with a tasty treat! Another outstanding shot of nature at her most dramatic. : )
