Description
This is the Korean Friendship Bell**, near Angel's Gate in San Pedro, California. I was there yesterday doing a foto shoot*** for a friend. As we left, the sun was just going down and I had to stop and get a few shots of this amazing piece of art. How I'd love to hear it, it must shake the very earth!! However, they have the log chained down and locked--just for people like me who WOULD ring it. The neighbors would NOT be happy!!

I can almost feel the reverberations....ssss....ssss. So, this is on old Fort MacArthur. I was there for a day of military activities in 1973.

These bells are always so impressively thick that you'd hurt your knuckles rapping against them to make the sing. Ah...but this is a lovely capture with a perfect sunburst peeking out. Wonderful work, and like you, I would have to ring it! They make such an impressive sound...they're like the bell versions of taiko drums, only taiko drums are Japanese, not Korean...impressive nonetheless. This is a great photo, and it makes me want to go looking for big, huge, Asian bells now.

Wonderful shot, the sun flair really makes the picture. There is a memorial bell in Hiroshima. Visitors are encouraged to ring it to honor the dead. Sharkey has a point,next time bring your own mallet. After all, what are they going to do, throw you out? ;-|
