Description
If you remember the 1982 film adaptation of "Annie", you undoubtedly will recall Punjab saving Annie from being chased off the end of a wide-open draw bridge by the evil Rooster Hannigan.
Punjab was flying one of these,...a Kellett K-2 Autogiro, obviously owned by Daddy Warbucks.
Looks best ZOOMED.
This K-2 sits in a display in the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. It was purchased by the Army Air Corps and tested in Dayton for use as an observation aircraft in 1931.
No, it isn't a helicopter:)
Bill:)
Note: The strange patterns on the rear wall are from a stage light and represent a tree with leaves.

Wonderful sepia, Bill. I read the mail and thought of "Annie get your Gun". Hmm, wrong Annie! Cheers, Clive

Wonderful capture Bill! The soft light and sepia tone lend the image a mystical theme! Bravo! :)
Not a helicopter ... I see the wings! :P I went on the web and found footage of one of these flying. Fascinating!
Great. Your soft sepia render features the plane so well.
What a funny looking thing---your sepia tones and angles give it a lovely, soft look!!
superb!!!!!!
A very strange mechanical insect!
An amazing shot. I like the sepia tones.
C O O O O L
a very pretty airplane!
I also like the sepia presentation. I know the film but have never seen it!!!!
Bill Got to say I adore this, The sepia tone give such a impact, Great shot!!!
The auto-gyro concept was quite a rage in the 1930s. Many comic strips featured them, as well as adventure pulp fiction. "Take off from a tennis court," was one of the by-phrases (for some reason I doubt that, but "land" in a small place, perhaps). Good photo to bring the craft to our attention.
Amazing aircraft Bill never seen one before so thank you for sharing this and the information page, Just goes to show one can learn something new every day, even at a art gallery site lol.. Excellent capture Bill well done!!
i don't remember Annie, but i like your shot ;-D
I don't know much about airplanes ..but this one looks like it could be crossed with a little bit of helicopter
I like that part that the propeller comes out of. I'm sure I haven't seen one like that before. Excellent capture.
Excellent in all departments with this stellar quasi-nighttime shot, Bill! I knew instantly that it was an autogyro.

Can't remember the movie but the opening scene involves W.C. Fields arriving in one of these ... IIRC he was a tad off course... of course. Great shot.
