Description
Walking down a steep hill on Wagga Wagga Street in Leavenworth, Kansas this morning, I was struck by this view of our 106 year old Federal Penitentiary.
A ZOOM helps a lot.
I always wonder if there are any true penitents anywhere in the prison population these days:)
Bill:)

Several have asked where did the name Wagga Wagga ever come from? Wagga Wagga is a city in New South Wales, Australia and has been a "Sister City" of Leavenworth since 1962. We also have Ōmihachiman, Japan as a Sister City.

Woah...what a distance...awesome idea Bill. :-)
Can't say one way or the other to your musings but this is a lovely shot.
good question ..spectacular shot and color!
Very good shot.
Very nice capture Bill!
The foreground foliage gives tremendous depth to this fine long distance shot of the Federal Prison, Bill!
Good frame. Wonderful colors in the leaves. Glad you partially obscured one wing of the building, reducing its importance to bearable for the viewer.
impressive fall colors. we have so many jails here, it is not funny
Kind of ironic that it is the most imposing ediface around the area...and in most cases I think not...but some nice fall foliage seen here...
Wonderful rich fall colors framing the impressive building Bill! Most pleasing shot! :)
Great view. Love the fall leaves. Penitents? I doubt it too.
Wagga Wagga street? Am I the only one who wondered about that? We have Walla Walla (town, onions) but no Wagga Wagga that I know of. What a great view! The autumn colors, and that VERY impressive building. Excellent image!
Superb shot Bill lovely tree colours very nice pity the prison is so outstanding in the shot, well done..
Wagga Wagga sounds like an Australian link somewhere in time. Just shows that there is beauty in everything, depending on your point of view! Cheers, Clive

superlative autumn view .. and they say penitentiaries are the universities of crime. Unfortunately, we can't do without.
Interesting view and I love the colors in the trees. Great shot.
The trees make a wonderful frame for the prison. They really have coloured up well.
