Description
Photo taken by me on June 14, 2009. No post work except to sharpen.
Bill
Please ZOOM for full effect. Focal length gives some idea of how close this was.
Footnote added Monday, October 19th, 0800 am. Maybe I should leave you wondering but this is a case of, "it is the crop that counts". This McDonald-Douglas F-4 Phantom II actually sits on a concrete pad on display. The landing gear and the parking lot with my Toyota in it have been cropped off:-)

wonderful photo and great POV!!!
Impressive and wonderfully moody. I'm a big fan of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica and even though this is not a Colonial viper, or even a Cylon raider, it has that same moody vibe. You can't escape its purpose and yet you're entranced by the beauty of it, the magnificence. Killing machines (including fighter planes) are always like that, and this is superb. The clouds enhance so much of it and the POV is stunning. Wonderful work. I particularly love the dominance of the metallic colors. Even the clouds are the gray of gun metal.
Getting down to the business it was designed for..great POV...
Oh wow - brilliant image Bill! I really like the POV and the angry sky adds a load of mood! Well done! :)
Wow that's close Bill and big lol, nice capture and POV.. well done
Such a powerful composition, Bill! Chip has said it all.
Cool POV...great close up action Bill...
Well done, Phantom Wingman! Great POV looks like you are flying... collision course with the storm clouds, or with your team leader? Cheers, Clive
Love the POV and the sky gives it a touch of drama, excellent capture!!
Excellent image...love the POV....
Really great pov and capture .:)
Magnificent shot and POV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent up close and personal. Would make a fine poster with that sky.
Great POV and shot Bill!
That sky looks dark for June, great shot, looks good in zoom.
This is a fabulous example of what you can do with cropping. The wow factor here is off the scale, simply because you took out all evidence of the ground. Excellent image!!
Excellent crop. After you told us it's an F4, I can relate to the long tailfin.
This is just so awesome on so many levels--wow!!
great perspective! Great shot!!!!!
A wonderful POV. Super photo.
Cool capture, Bill!
interesting pov of this roaring machine
fabulous work: the cropping here has given the photo a terrific POV!
WOWWWWW AWESOME POV
Stellar POV and ominous mood in this shot, Bill! This looks like a typical scene from one of the many airliner-in-trouble movies that have entertained us over the years.
Eyepoping POV! Kudos.
What a gorgeous atmosphere and sky! Excellent composition and subject... looks massive, and makes me wonder what the rest looks like! Most intriguing and fascinating image! Wonderful POV!
LOL I took some shots of two different mills in Virginia the other day on the second one that took me all day to find, I got a bit turned around on this country road, anyway by the time I found it, I think I must have been tired because after viewing my photos, I noticed most of the better photos have my car in the left hand corner so I am going to have to do some tricky crop work on them I will remember next time though, lesson well learned. Great shot Bill.
outstanding pov and effect of being in harms way if the engine should start
Fine crop to make this F-4 come alive. Now if only there only was a smoke trail from the GE engines...
