Description
A prodigious number of weddings occurred on the day that the Ninja Photographers of Renderosity made their foray into the heart of Chicago. Honestly, there were so many brides and bride's maids, grooms and best men (or at least moderately OK men) that one could think that there was an explosion in a wedding factory. It's funny, because Humans weren't the only creatures engaged in (or producing) the mating surge. It would seem that on the Friday before Ninja Photographer Saturday was Grasshopper wedding day. As I returned to my father's truckyard, before heading north to spend time with Marilyn and Tara, Mark and Corey, I noticed zillions of grasshoppers...most were mating...on the wing no less! They were exceptionally hard to capture, and so I settled for these two. They barely moved, and I was struck by the intensity of their background as well as the wonderful chevrons on their legs. There were locusts as well, with ridged back and chevron-less legs, but I decided that grasshoppers would be a better post for today.
As always, thank you for looking, reading, and commenting, and hopefully everyone is having a great week.

great capture! Romantic view! RS
They almost seem to be made of metal, and they look so intense! What a great capture, they are beautiful creatures!
This is a SUPERB pic, Chip, and I shall treasure it in my favourites!
superb !
WOW - you are so lucky! Excellent image Chip... They do look almost 'plastic'!!! I love the chevron legs!!! :)
Great work. The details and DOF are spot on. They seem to be saying "Hey! Can we have a little privacy?"
Great romantic scene!!!! Excellent capture!!! Hugs.
sweet warm hugs, Linda
What kind of pickup lines do grasshoppers use I wonder? I'm really trying hard not to say...."Hey lady, nice legs!"
I know they say "Hey Baby you look so green today, it just turns me on." Great capture, lots of detail.
I don't know.....is it just me or does she (the one on the bottom I'm presuming) have this really disgusted ticked off expression? I realize that grasshoppers don't have eye brows, but if they did, or if she did, that's most definitely a scowl! Or at the very least, certainly not a happy face :) . I'm not really sure how exactly romance works in the life of a grasshopper, perhaps there wasn't a romantic nibble before hand, or the typical males incredible lack of foreplay, if there is such a thing as grasshopper foreplay. If there isn't, that could well explain her intense look of total disdain. You mentioned in your words that they barely moved, I'm familiar with that too, in fact there were times when I would bring a mirror to bed, when I was married, just to hold it beneath her nose everyone once in awhile just to make sure she was still breathing. Maybe that's where I know that expression so well from! Regardless, he sure looks like he's having himself a great time!! I think you should've lingered a bit, just to see if they might've enjoyed a smoke afterward. This really is a great shot!
Oh man :) Good one!
